About Me

Many people come to counseling feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted from trying to handle everything on their own. My goal is to provide a space where you feel understood, supported, and equipped with practical tools to move forward.

I’m Matthew Hartzog, the counselor behind Renewed Mind Counseling. I know reaching out for help is not always easy, and if you are here, it likely means you or someone you love is carrying a heavy load. My role is to provide a safe and supportive space where you can be heard, understood, and equipped with tools to move forward. Counseling is not about quick fixes. It is about walking the journey together toward clarity, growth, and renewed hope.

My Background

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA), a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS), and a Certified Clinical Supervisor Intern (CCS-I). I have been counseling since 2016, with experience in both substance use and mental health. Alongside my counseling work, I also bring over a decade of public service, which has given me a unique perspective on resilience, growth, and the challenges people face in difficult circumstances.

My Approach

I believe the most important part of the counseling process is the therapeutic relationship. Lasting change happens when you feel safe, understood, and genuinely supported. My work is grounded in a person-centered approach, which means I view each client as the expert of their own story. My role is to provide support, guidance, and tools that empower you to move forward at your own pace. Alongside this foundation, I integrate evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and EMDR to address specific needs and goals. My aim is always to create a space where you can explore challenges and discover renewed hope.

Faith-Sensitive Support

For clients who desire it, I offer Christian faith-sensitive support as part of the counseling process. My years of experience serving in church ministry have shaped the way I approach care with compassion and respect for the whole person. This is always optional and guided by each client’s needs and preferences.

Clients I Often Work With

  • Adults struggling with anxiety, overthinking, or burnout
  • Individuals recovering from trauma or painful past experiences
  • Teens struggling with anxiety, mood changes, school stress, peer conflict, or behavioral concerns
  • Adolescents navigating identity development, family tension, or exposure to trauma or instability
  • People navigating faith questions or spiritual struggles
  • Clients balancing mental health and substance recovery
  • High responsibility helpers who feel they must stay strong for everyone else

Call to Action

Counseling is not about fixing you. It is about helping you rediscover strength, clarity, and direction. Many clients begin to notice reduced anxiety, greater emotional stability, improved relationships, and a renewed sense of purpose as we work together.

Taking the first step toward counseling can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. If you are ready to begin the process of growth and renewal, I would be honored to walk alongside you. You can reach out today to schedule a consultation to learn more about how I can support you.
